About
Us
Bosphorus
Art Project, a not-for-profit organization, was founded in October 2003 and
incorporated in January 2004 by a group of Turks and Turkish Americans. Bosphorus
Art Project is 501(c)3 tax exempt organization.
Our
goal is to bring Turkish art forms to Phoenix in an effort to
establish a well-respected community of Turkish-Americans in Arizona,
through activities such as, but not limited to, arts and culture
festivals, concerts, performances, exhibitions, panels, publications,
and multi-media productions.
We
intend to make Turkish arts accessible and available to a broad
range of audiences as well as support Turkish and Turkish-American
artists by providing venues to showcase their talents and works.
Our inspiration was the Moon and Stars Project in New York City
who has been our partner and mentor between 2003 and 2006. Without the help of Moon
And Stars Project™ our job would have been difficult
indeed. They shared not only their bylaws, mission statements,
and expertise but most importantly their experience and wisdom
with us.
The 2005 and 2006 programs included a variety of directors and examples from contemporary Turkish cinema. Attendance at the festival is continuing to increase each year with our highest participation of 579 in 2006. This year we are hosting two movies at the Phoenix Film Festival (April 12-19, 2007).

Our
first project was the 2004 Turkish
Film Festival which took place in September 10-12, 2004.
We presented a Restrospective
of director Zeki Demirkubuz' works. The 2nd
Annual Turkish Film Festival was held on October 14-16,
2005 @ Harkins Valley Art Theatre in Tempe, following Moon
and Stars Project™'s NY Turkish Film Festival. The 2005 and 2006
programs included a variety of directors and examples from
contemporary Turkish cinema. Please visit our webpage regularly
to get more information on the upcoming
events. |

We

info on submissions and issue themes. Please visit our upcoming
events page for more info.In the future we hope to include
theatre productions, music concerts and art exhibits along
with the annual film festival. We are co-sponsoring a classical guitar & voice concert (A Mediterranean Journey) with guitarist Cem Duruöz & soprano Camille Zamora with the Turkish American Association of Arizona. Please join us on March 25th, 2007 at the Herberger Theatre (Downtown Phoenix) and mingle with the artists during reception. We are excited to become a part of the Phoenix Film Festival this year.
