Lengthening

The cocktails began the day I turned twenty-nine.
It was an experiment to see how much longer
I could last.

Vitamin A-E,
Calcium
Echinacea
Gingko biloba for memory
Omega 3 and garlic pills.

How many years could I add on?
How many more minutes
Thoughts
Steps?

I’ve looked into cryogenics
And nanobots
Any option that might flicker
Eternal.

I’m saving up for the after life,
Whatever’s left from all I spend on pills.

I twiddle my rosary
And throw a xanex into the mix
for the fear,
The only thing I’m sure about.

So far, I’ve lasted a year.

Rumination

Sometimes I forget
And things settle down.
I’m attached to something

I forget.

I don’t know what
I’m blocking or
Remembering

I forget.

Sometimes I just forget
And I feel better
For awhile
For a thought

Until I remember

And all I want to do
Is forget
But I can’t.

I always remember.
